Love You Through It
from a journal
Last night my chest was closing in, throat tight, the spiral spinning, all the weight of who I've been and who I had to leave behind. So I said it, said it, said it— I love you, I love you, I love you— until my lungs remembered air, until the swirling let me go. Yes, it lives there, always. Yes, I feel it in the dark. But I choose the other thing: Growth in any direction, forward, any way but back. Looking back would break me open. So I learn what I can hold, and I let the rest unfold.
